// What is myxtape.io?

myxtape.io is an audio sharing and community platform. Think of it like a social network, but instead of tweets or posts, the primary medium is sound — recordings, broadcasts, mixtapes, and voice.

Every person on the platform operates a Station — your own channel. You upload audio broadcasts, listeners tune in and follow you, and the conversation happens through audio responses called ReMYxes.

The aesthetic is deliberately lo-fi. We're not trying to be Spotify or SoundCloud. We're closer in spirit to a community radio station, a photocopied zine, or a tape you'd mail to someone whose music you loved. It's for the people who make things, share things, and care about building community around sound.

// What is it for?

myxtape.io was built for creators, artists, musicians, activists, writers, and anyone else who has a voice and wants to use it. We think audio is an underused medium for community building, and we wanted to make a space that centers that.

◉ MUSICIANS & PRODUCERS

Upload tracks, demos, sessions, and experiments. Build a listener base that actually cares about your work. Share process recordings, not just finished products.

◉ PODCASTERS & SPEAKERS

Broadcast your show, essays, interviews, or radio plays. Listeners can ReMYx with their own audio response — making conversation happen in the same medium.

◉ DJS & MIXERS

Post mixes, sets, and radio hours. Organize them into MYxTAPEs — curated playlists that listeners can follow. Create listening threads across the community.

◉ ACTIVISTS & ORGANIZERS

Record speeches, teach-ins, oral histories, community calls. Share them in a space that isn't monetized by engagement algorithms or controlled by corporate platforms.

// How it works

01
You get a Station

Every member has a Station — a unique ID (like KXLF-09 or BFLY-88), a profile, and their own feed of broadcasts. Your Station is your voice on the platform.

02
You broadcast

Upload audio files (MP3, WAV, FLAC) to your Station as Broadcasts. Add a title, tags, description, and cover image. Set a Content Warning if needed. Hit publish — or schedule it for later.

03
Listeners tune in

Other stations can follow yours. Your broadcasts show up in their home feed. They can like, comment, and download (if you allow it). Their home feed is their listening queue.

04
Conversation happens through ReMYxes

A ReMYx is an audio response — someone records their own broadcast in reply to yours. It threads directly under the original, creating an audio conversation. ReMYxes can be ReMYx'd in turn.

05
Build your MYxTAPE

Organize your broadcasts (or anyone's public broadcasts) into MYxTAPEs — curated playlists with their own page. Think of them as mix tapes: sequences of audio you've assembled with intention.

// How to join

myxtape.io uses a manual approval process for new accounts. We do this because we want to build a real community — not just an open signup funnel. It takes less than a minute to apply, and we review applications ourselves.

What you'll need to provide:
  • · Your first and last name
  • · An email address
  • · Your chosen Station ID (username)
  • · A password

After you apply, we'll review your application and send an email when it's approved. Most applications are reviewed within a few days. You must be 18 or older to join.

By joining, you agree to our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. The short version: be a human, be decent, don't upload anything illegal or harmful.

// Community values

We're built for communities that are often marginalized, surveilled, and deplatformed elsewhere. That shapes how we think about moderation, safety, and who we want to be.

  • We actively protect all community members from harassment and hate.
  • We have zero tolerance for hate speech, harassment, and doxxing.
  • We do not run ads. We do not sell your data. We are not building an engagement machine.
  • We are human-moderated and will never outsource that responsibility to an algorithm.
  • We believe in the right to make weird, experimental, difficult, and uncommercial work.
